Xinhua sports writer Ji Ye has worked in Rio for over two years. His recent inspection of the related places may help you get a better understanding of the truth behind. (Soundbite) Ji Ye, Xinhua Sports Writer in Rio "Construction work on Rio's Olympic Park has reached 99% completion. 5 of 9 venues at the park are ready. Media facilities and the Olympic Park hotel are ready. However some constructions are still undergoing. Laborers are still completing work on the velodrome, a warm-up pool at the Maria Lenk Aquatic centre, two tennis courts and access ramps at Olympic Arena." More than 500,000 tourists and over 10,000 athletes are expected to come to Rio soon. To protect them from threats, a security force of 85,000 police and military staff will be deployed on streets and in venues, two times bigger than the London Olympics. (Soundbite) Ji Ye, Xinhua Sports Writer in Rio "As the state of Rio is currently trapped in financial crisis, Brazil's federal government has also agreed to provide the state of Rio with 850 million U.S. dollars in emergency funds to guarantee security of the Olympic Games. However, due to the favela and robbery crime, people come to Rio have to pay special attention to personal security." Zika virus, which causes cerebral deficiency in baby due to infected mother, has drawn wide concern. Organizers and medical authorities have said that Zika cases in Rio have dropped sharply in recent weeks and will fall to almost zero during the dry winter months of the Games. (Soundbite) Ji Ye, Xinhua Sports Writer in Rio "The CEO of Rio organizing committee Sydney Levy also pointed out that there were too many people outside of Brazil talking about Zika, (with) too many negative comments. He said it was good for them to hear other voices." Outdoor water games will be held at Beach Copacabana, Lagoon Rodrigo de Freitas and Bay Guanabara. Rio's ability to manage such locations for sports purposes is widely debated by media as well as professionals. (Soundbite) Ji Ye, Xinhua Sports Writer in Rio "Rio has "failed" on its promise to clean 80% of water pollution by the Olympics, but Rio organizing committee CEO Sydney Levy said 4 of 5 sites on the Guanabara Bay are tested daily for bacteria and will not pose any problems and left open the possibility of moving the other."

President Xi Jinping, also the General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, visited the headquarters of three major national news organizations in Beijing on Friday morning and extended greetings for the upcoming Lantern Festival to people across China. At around 8:40, Xi arrived at the headquarters of the People's Daily newspaper and sent holiday greetings through its social media platforms and the paper's own news app. "Hello, everyone. With the Lantern Festival around the corner, I wish you all happy, healthy and successful new year," said President Xi in a short audio message recorded at the newspaper. Xi pressed the keyboard and sent the greetings on the three platforms, generating warm response. As of 11:20, the greetings have been forwarded nearly 10,000 times and liked by more than 17,000 people on the Weibo account of People's Daily, about two hours after it was published at 9:36. Many netizens thanked Xi and extended an early Lantern Festival greeting to him. One netizen named "What she does not know" said, "Hi, uncle Xi, I wish you a happy Lantern Festival in advance." Xi also visited the headquarters of the Xinhua News Agency and China Central Television (CCTV) later in the day. At the state news agency Xinhua, Xi used a remote news reporting command system to talk with an agency correspondent currently reporting from a village in Lankao County, Henan Province. During the conversation, he said that the work style of grassroots cadres is integral to the Party's rule and is directly linked to the people's interests. He noted that journalists should undertake more in-depth investigative reporting on this work style. While at Xinhua, Xi was also briefed on the news agency's reporting procedures. After listening to journalists' experience of reporting during the Spring Festival holiday, he encouraged them to be more down to earth in their approach and to report on topics that would be well received by the public. After leaving the Xinhua News Agency, Xi headed for China Central Television (CCTV). At the CCTV headquarters, Xi held a video conference with Washington D.C.- based CCTV America, asking staff there about their daily life. Xi was also briefed on the CCTV business and its media integration, learned about CCTV's transmission capacity, and the production process of the widely-watched Xinwen Lianbo program. On the Friday afternoon, Xi presided over a working meeting on mass media, urging media organizations to increase their influence and credibility. National media are an important part of the work of the Communist Party of China and concerns about the governance of the state and the stability of the country, Xi said. News media should adhere to the right orientation of public opinion, keep pace with the times, respect the regulations of mass media, and encourage innovation, Xi said. 7 Magnitude Earthquake China Sichuan Province JiuZhaiGou 2017 A 7.0-magnitude earthquake jolted southwest China's Sichuan Province on Tuesday, says China Earthquake Networks Center. There were no immediate reports of damage from the area, which is frequently struck by earthquakes. Citing a statement issued by the centre, the state-run Xinhua news agency reported that the quake occurred at around 9.19 pm (Beijing time) and struck at a depth of 20 km. The US Geological Survey measured the quake at magnitude 6.6 and said it struck 200 kilometres west northwest of Guangyuan in Sichuan province at a depth of 32 km, South China Morning Post reported. Pictures on state media-run social media sites showed some minor damage in Jiuzhaigou, with tiles having fallen from buildings and people gathering outdoors, but no major damage. The Sichuan earthquake administration said the epicentre of the tremor was in Ngawa prefecture, largely populated by ethnic Tibetans. Follow us on TWITTER: http://twitter.com/cnforbiddennews Like us on FACEBOOK: http://www.facebook.com/chinaforbiddennews According to Chinese media, the Director of Public Security in Guangdong Province will not serve as the Secretary of the Political and Legislative Committee (PLC). This has happened in another 21 cities. Xinhua Net, the Chinese Communist Party's (CCP) official media, cited the report on June 4. From the evidence Xinhua Net supports weakening the PLC, analysts believe that "the second power center" and Zhou Yongkang's time have come to end. Here is more information. There have recently been rumors about the suppression and degradation of the PLC. According to Southern Metropolitan Daily, owned by Southern Daily Group in Guangdong, PLC secretaries will not serve as public security bureau directors after re-election. Cities like Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Dongguan, and Meizhou have made this change one by one. In 21 cities, deputy mayors will take the place of PLC secretaries, serving as public security bureau directors. Before 1998, the central PLC wasn't an important organization. However, after Jiang Zemin started persecuting Falun Gong, the PLC expanded its power drastically. It became "the second power center." Zhang Sutian, current affairs commentator, said that after Jiang Zemin took power, and in order to carry out the persecution, many public security bureau directors became PLC secretaries, maximizing their power. Zhang Sutian: "As a result, many local public security bureaus abuse their power. Courts and procuratorate actually have no power and have to obey public security bureau directors. The consequent chaos in China's justice system has made people suffer. Complaints can be heard everywhere, which increases the CCP's crisis." According to statistics by Southern Metropolitan Daily reporters, since the reelection at the end of last year, 14 local areas such as Foshan and Dongguan changed PLC secretaries. In some other areas, changes have been made to the responsibilities that PLC secretaries hold. Official media Xinhua Net, published the whole article from Southern Metropolitan Daily. Zhang Sutian, current affairs commentator, said that Xinhua Net had related reports this time. These were more obviously manipulated by Hu Jintao and Wen Jiabao. Other sources reveal that the Central PLC will no longer enter the Central Politburo Standing Committee. Zhang Sutian: "After Wang Lijun's case and the conspiracy between Bo Xilai and Zhou Yongkang to oust Xi Jinping was exposed, the security of the CCP itself got threatened by the PLC. According to latest information, the PLC, as the second power center, as well as the power of Zhou Yongkang, has come to an end." The PLC, under the control of Zhou Yongkang has for many years has expanded it's violence to maintain stabilization. People have called on the central government "to get rid of PLC." This includes Mao Yushi, Chairman of Beijing Tianze Economics Institute and Yu Jianrong, sociologist at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences. It also includes He Weifang, law professor at Peking University and Zhang Zanning, law professor at Southeast University. According to commentator Hong Jian, if the PLC cannot directly lead public security bureaus, its main power is actually deprived. Hong Jian: "This indicates Hu and Wen's test on the blood-debt faction. To cut the connection between the PLC and the public security bureau, their key step is removing Zhou Yongkang." Writer Wu Jianguo believes that the power of the PLC has threatened the security of the CCP's core members. Wu Jianguo: "Hu and Wen weakened the PLC's power. One of the reasons is that they were aware of the PLC's expanded power. It has not only led to corruption, but threatened the key leaderships at different levels. Meanwhile, it shows Hu and Wen's capability of suppressing the PLC. Zhou Yongkang, as the head of the PLC, and part of Jiang Zemin's blood-debt faction, has lost his power. He can no longer maintain the PLC privileges." But Wu Jianguo pointed out that suppressing the PLC doesn't mean the CCP will then step into judicial independence. If Hu and Wen have the inclination, they should completely remove the PLC. They should let law-enforcement authorities operate based on law, rather than under the "CCP's command." 《神韵》2011世界巡演新亮点 http://www.ShenYunPerformingArts.org/

The Chinese regime may be preparing for military conflict with Japan over the disputed Diaoyu or Senkaku Islands. A Canadian-based defense magazine reported last week that a new air force base has been set up in southern China. It also has several fighter jets that are capable of flying to disputed sea waters on a moment's notice. On Thursday, when China's Ministry of Defense was asked to comment on the report, it neither confirmed nor denied it. Spokesman Geng Yansheng said the matter was related to military operations and it was not up him to comment. Political Commentator Hua Puo says Chinese authorities may be preparing for Japan's upcoming election. The Diaoyu Islands dispute has disrupted Sino-Japanese relations for several months, with both sides asserting sovereignty over the resource rich islands. [Hua Puo, Political Commentator]: "If Japan's Liberal Democratic Party wins the election, it'll take an even more confrontational approach on the issue, and this could lead to a serious conflict. The Chinese side could be preparing for the escalation." On November 23, Toronto based, The Kanwa Information Center, says a new air force base has been set up at Shuimen in coastal Fujian Province. According to state-run Xinhua News Agency, the Center had satellite pictures of the base, showing fighter jets and large fortress hangers. The Chinese regime has recently been flexing its military muscle, conducting various drills at sea. Hua Puo says these could also be directed at the US—to discourage its involvement should any conflicts arise. [Hua Puo, Political Commentator]: If a crisis erupts between China and Japan, the Chinese regime will be concerned whether the US follow its obligation under the Japan-US Security Treaty. China wouldn't want the US to be directly involved, it does not want this public confrontation with the US." Tensions flared between China and Japan in recent months after Japan purchased the disputed islands from its private owners. It sparked widespread anti-Japanese protests in China. Leaders from the two countries have also had frosty exchanges during international engagements.
